Handcrafted American Windsor Chairs and 18th Century Furniture Reproductions
Welcome to The Country Furniture Shop located in the small village of Madison in Central New York. Each piece of furniture is custom made in my shop. My customers have complete flexibility when choosing chair styles and variations. I can handcraft exact antique copies, work from book references or photos, or produce my own interpretations to suit a customer’s needs. You may also be interested in the other custom made 18th century furniture reproductions that I offer. These are tables, beds, stands, clocks, chest of drawers and other case pieces made from pine, cherry, tiger maple or another wood of your choice. All pieces are custom-made to order with careful attention to details. I enjoy working closely with my customers and want them to feel free to discuss design, color or size options. Do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions you may have.
The waiting time for your order could be several weeks or less depending on the size of your order and my backlog. In the Photo Galleries are photos of some of my most popular pieces. Please call or write if you’d like additional photos or information.
If you’d like to visit, my showroom is located on scenic Route 20 in the center of New York State, situated between Syracuse and Albany. I am in my shop generally Monday through Saturday, but it is best to call and make an appointment. I hope we get a chance to meet soon!

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS THINK
“Chris Harter’s elegant Windsor settee has been an integral part of the Fenimore Art Museum’s main foyer for more than a decade. It displays a level of craftsmanship and style that perfectly compliments our collections of 18th and 19th century fine art and folk art. Best of all, the settee provides a spacious and comfortable place for our visitors to rest after viewing our exhibits, or while waiting for a tour or program. Its combination of beauty and comfort is what every museum looks for in addressing public needs.”

“Integrity of execution, materials and design coupled with balance and interpretation are but a few of the hallmarks that set Chris Harter’s work above most. The Windsor chairs we have acquired have instantly become the focal point around which all else in the room revolves. We regret not having invested in more of his pieces early on.”
“We appreciate every detail you have so carefully crafted, Chris, especially the ‘contrast’ between bold and delicate, fat and slender, sharp and rounded, straight and curved. Look at those delicate wrists! …the surge and taper of the spindles!…the nobility of the whole! Each piece has a ‘personality’ of excellence,…integrity,…compassion!”
